Spending some time alone is not solitude as everyone needs some space and time to recharge. It is very healthy for working moms to take some time alone for themselves to be emotionally and mentally well. The need for alone time is not selfish. It is taking care of yourself so that you can take care of everyone else
Unfortunately, it is hard for working moms to find some” me time” at home leaving the option to the workplace. If your work allows, try squeezing in as much “me time’ as you can get at the office. You have to be deliberate to find these opportunities to create some “alone time” away from the colleagues and everyone else.
You can get some alone time during lunch hour, tea break, getting to office early or leaving late, commute time, bathroom and blocking your time when necessary.
During these me time, you can go for a walk/run, read, write a journal, meditate, de-clutter or just sit/sleep. All this will be very helpful for your mentally.
Every alone time matters. Start with as little time as you can get to yourself in a day and work from there. This may get be as little as 15 minutes a day but with persistence, you can increase this to an hour
Guaranteed Time to Get Alone Time
1. Use the Office Lunch Hour as “Me-Time”
Most employers will allow the employees an lunch hour break. It is an entire hour that you have all to yourself. You may spend it with others but it is also a perfect moment to spend it alone, especially if it is hard to get some other alone time later.
While you may spend your lunch hour with colleagues on some days, choose specific days in a week that you use this one hour for yourself.
2. Spend the Tea break Alone
Equally, you can use the tea break to get some me-time. It is usually shorter than the lunch hour but just as useful. Instead of the usual chit-chat at the office all week, choose to spend some breaks alone on some days. If you have an office to yourself, you have a privilege as you can enjoy all the break time alone.

3. Get to the Office Early for Some “Me Time”
If getting some alone time at the office is hard when other people are around, try getting to the office earlier than everyone else. If you are allowed to, you can arrive an hour or half an hour at your office before the actual time the rest of the colleagues start getting in. It gives you uninterrupted time to yourself all alone at the office.

4. Use Your Work Commute Time as “Me Time”
Not many working moms appreciate the power and the things you can do during your commute time to and from the office. There is so much alone time you have, especially if you have a long commute to the office.
Some working moms have a commute time as long as an hour one way which is a good time that you can spend alone . The option will especially work great if you drive yourself and therefore alone in the car.

5. Use Bathroom Breaks for “Me Time”
Moms go to bathrooms all the time to pull themselves together. You can use this as me-time.The bathrooms have seen the pain and fears of many women who run there when they are in the blink of a meltdown. Yet only a few working women view bath room time as actual “me time”.
Bathrooms are perfect for that much-needed alone time in the middle of the workday, with no intrusion. Take as much time as you want during your bathroom breaks. They count as alone time and cumulatively you will feel better mentally and emotionally.
6. Time Blocking at Office
Sometimes if you can’t find any alone time to yourself during the day, and you desperately need one, the most ideal thing to do is time blocking. Just like a lot of work scenarios, time blocking is the best way to get un-interrupted time to yourself.
Be disciplined and don’t bulge. Let your colleagues know that you are taking some time alone. It will avoid them disrupting you in your office or calling you
