Going for Off Day? Comprehensive Moms List of Things to Do

Getting a day off from work is important. It allows you to take the much needed break from work to reset and re-energize. It also gives you adequate time to run personal errands such as hobbies, salon, shopping, doctors appointments, exercise, study etc.

However you need to still take your child to daycare or get a nanny to allow you the quality time for these things. Do not feel guilty about it because caring for your child will be too time consuming and tiring for you. You won’t manage to rest or run any errands.

List of 10 Things To Do On Your Off Work Day

1. Get Adequate Sleep

During your normal working days, you may not get the recommended adequate hours of sleep. Between working , caring for their baby, and house chores after work, most working moms barely have enough sleep.

If you are sleep deprived, you should use your work day off to get more sleep. After sending the baby to daycare, just get back home and have uninterrupted sleep. It is very OK and you should not feel guilty about spending your day off in bed.

2. Engage in your Hobbies

One of the challenges most working moms face is not having enough time for hobbies. As such your off-work days are perfect for your hobbies because you now have time.

Consider swimming, baking, art, gardening, or whatever it is that you would wish to do but lack the time to do.  You can start new hobbies such as create a new interesting recipe.

3. Self-Care/Spa Day

A work day off is perfect for self-care because you get pampered to re-energize your body and mind. Settle down for a day of getting your hair and nails done, legs waxed, face masked, massage, or anything you like to relax your body.

You can either go to a spa or invite them to your home. It is a very relaxing and rebuilding way of spending your time off work.

4. Shopping

Shopping can be tiring and chaotic if you are doing it with kids. A day off gives you time to shop without your kids by. If you need to do a lot of shopping, do shopping on a work day off when your kids are in daycare or with your nanny. You will get adequate time to find the items that you want without having to worry about your baby touching things or running off.

5. Housekeeping

If you do not have a housekeeper or cleaner, you can’t manage to do the necessary cleaning. You may hence realize that your house can get dirty and neglected. Therefore you may feel the need to keep your house in order on the days you are at home and not working.

On your off days, you can do laundry, fold your clothes, de-clutter your room, clear under the bed, and do other general housekeeping. Cleaning is therapeutic and will make you feel refreshed and ready for work the next day. 

6. Running Errands and Appointments

When you get off work days, take advantage by running errands and appointments that are still pending. Take your baby to daycare or nanny to allow you to effectively and efficiently accomplish this.

7. Spend The Day With your Partner

Spending a kid-free day with your partner is perfect on a day you are not working. You need adult time and a day off allows you and your partner such times together. Together you two can go out for lunch and coffee or stay at home and watch TV together  among other things.

8. Studying

It is hard to get adequate equate time for reading or studying during work days or when your baby is around. Therefore studying is the most effective way to spend a day off work as you can focus on your studies when it is quiet.

9. Social Time- Meet Friends and Family

Socializing is so hard, tiring and overwhelming during workdays. When you are not working is the ideal time to catch up with your friends.   You can hence choose to spend the time with your friends or family on your days off work.

10. Work Out/Exercise

Many working moms are not able to get a consistent workout routine on normal working days. During your off work day off, take advantage to exercise without feeling rushed. You can hit the gym or exercise alone in the quiet of the house. You can also take a walk, short hike, or run.  Also you can dance in the house.
